OUR TEAM & MISSION

Daedalus AI Safety Hacks (DASH) aims to expose high-achieving and ambitious high schoolers & college undergraduates to the problem of AI safety/alignment.  While AI will certainly help us solve some of our most important problems, the current gap between our understanding of deep learning  systems and their capability poses significant risks to the long-term flourishing of humanity.

A joint effort by the AI safety initiatives at The University of Michigan and Georgia Tech, our team has a rich background in hosting hackathons and a deep understanding of the field.  We’re creating DASH because we believe early exposure to such important problems can counterfactually steer their career goals/ambitions towards adjacent fields.

Members of our team include the directors of the UMich and Georgia Tech initiatives, active researchers, and founders of the Pandorax – an organization that provides the largest free Olympiad learning resource on the internet, totaling over 100k reach worldwide.

THE HACKATHON

This spring, DASH is hosting its first hackathon.  By providing a platform for students to learn and compete against their peers, we encourage them to prototype solutions to problems in AI safety. We expect 200-300 attendees, and it will be held virtually through Zoom**.**

The hackathon will have a technical and a governance track. The technical track will look like a research sprint, and the governance track is an idea-thon.

We will host workshops as well as invite guest speakers from academia & industry to give introductory talks & workshops. In addition, our team will also curate targeted resources to educate unfamiliar students with the basics of AI and AI safety.
